Why I'm running

Because their energy infected me.

I met Hamza's family in person at a Toni Kroos Foundation event. What struck me: despite everything they go through every single day, they radiate an energy that instantly catches you – full of hope, love, joy of life. That energy stayed with me. And I knew: I want to help.

I'm not a fast runner. I'm no pro. But I can keep going for 15 days straight, I can cover 560 km through the Swiss mountains, and I can give every single kilometre a meaning.

To be honest On 20 % gradients, rough terrain, in bad weather or after 300 km on tired legs, "running" sometimes turns into very brisk walking or fast hiking. The kilometres stay the same — only the form adapts to reality.

From 5 to 19 July 2026, I'm running from Geneva to Bregenz – across the country, over every pass, through every valley. My friend Sebastian, a Michelin-starred chef and ten-year companion, comes along in the camper and makes sure there's a warm meal at every stage end.

„When I arrive at the final stage and know: this child can now be operated on – those will have been the most important 560 km of my life.“

★ The initial spark

Why it's Hamza.

Hamza lives with spastic cerebral palsy — a brain injury from early childhood that keeps his muscles permanently tense. Every movement takes enormous effort, walking upright without help is barely possible. Despite that, he radiates a joy that catches everyone who meets him.

What happens in Barcelona: At Dr. Igor Nazarov's clinic, the selective myofasciotomy according to the Ulzibat method is performed — a minimally invasive procedure that targets and releases tense muscle fascia without large incisions. Within days after surgery, first improvements are visible: freer movements, less pain, more independence.

Why the family can't handle it alone: German health insurance doesn't cover this method — it's not in the standard catalogue. Hamza's family has been carrying the ongoing treatment costs for years. The surgery is the next hurdle.

Surgery date: 4 August 2026 in Barcelona — two weeks after the 560 km run ends. If the funding goal is reached by then, the procedure can take place.
